India's two-wheeler market crossed 19.2 million sales in 2026, cementing its position as the world's largest. Hero MotoCorp leads with 6.9 million units, followed by Honda at 4.8 million. The big story is electric — 2.4 million electric two-wheelers were sold, more than double 2024 numbers.

Government subsidies under FAME III and state EV policies have been critical: the effective price of an Ola S1X is now ₹79,999 after subsidy.
Inflection Point: In December 2025, electric two-wheelers hit a monthly record of 17.8% market share. The trend line suggests 20% penetration by early 2027.
Regional Trends
UP, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu account for 32% of all two-wheeler registrations. Rural markets grew 5.2% vs 3.8% urban, driven by rising farm incomes and the Kisan Drone scheme. The top 10 cities by EV two-wheeler adoption are Bangalore, Pune, Delhi, Chennai, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Kochi, Mumbai, and Jaipur.
Warning: Inventory days for ICE two-wheelers rose to 45-50 days in Q1 2026, up from 35 days in 2024. Dealers are cautious and offering discounts of ₹3,000-8,000 to clear stock ahead of BS-VII norms expected in 2028.
