Car Sales Sep 2026, Q3 26 - Maruti, Tata, Mahindra, Hyundai, Kia, Toyota, MG, Skoda, Honda - RushLane
India's passenger vehicle market witnessed a mixed performance in September 2026 and the third quarter of the financial year 2026 (Q3 FY26), with some automakers posting robust growth while others faced headwinds. According to data from RushLane, Maruti Suzuki continued to dominate the sales charts, though its year-on-year (YoY) performance remained flat. The company sold 1,45,000 units in September 2026, a marginal decline of 1 per cent compared to 1,46,000 units in September 2025. For the third quarter, Maruti's total sales stood at 4,30,000 units, down 2 per cent from 4,38,000 units in Q3 FY25. Analysts say that the flat performance is largely due to a high base effect and shifting consumer preferences towards SUVs, where Maruti is still ramping up its presence. However, the company's newly launched models have been receiving a positive response, which could aid recovery in the coming quarters.
Tata Motors posted a strong performance, with September 2026 sales reaching 48,000 units, a 12 per cent increase from 43,000 units in the same month last year. The company's Q3 FY26 sales were 1,42,000 units, up 10 per cent from 1,29,000 units in Q3 FY25. Tata's growth was driven by its electric vehicle portfolio and the popularity of its SUV range. Mahindra & Mahindra also had a stellar quarter, selling 42,000 units in September 2026, a 15 per cent jump from 36,500 units in September 2025. For Q3, Mahindra sold 1,25,000 units, registering a growth of 14 per cent over 1,09,600 units in the year-ago period. Analysts say that Mahindra's focus on rugged SUVs and its expanding electric lineup has resonated well with Indian buyers.
Hyundai Motor India reported sales of 52,000 units in September 2026, a modest 3 per cent increase from 50,500 units in September 2025. Its Q3 FY26 sales stood at 1,55,000 units, up 4 per cent from 1,49,000 units in Q3 FY25. Kia India sold 22,000 units in September 2026, a flat performance compared to 22,100 units last year.
